Phoenix, the capital of Arizona, is located on the upper edge of the Sonoran Desert. It is situated in the south-central portion of the state at the intersection of Interstates 17 and 10. Phoenix is an agricultural, industrial and service center. It is surrounded by 22 other cities in the Valley of the Sun where western style homes and sprawling shopping malls abound.
Today, Phoenix is the sun-drenched hub of the agriculturally rich Salt River Valley. It also is an electronics, research and development, telecommunications and aerospace center. Phoenix boasts numerous indoor and outdoor diversions, including parks, national monuments, museums and sports teams.
